Video Clip: Small Time Blues by Pete Droge (Almost Famous movie)  [Digg.com This!]

This video is an extra on the 'Almost Famous', The Bootleg Cut (Director's Edition) 2000 DVD. The quality isn't great, but it's not had much post-production on the DVD itself.

This track caught my attention and I spent quite a while tracking it down from the lyrics. (Well before the DVD was out.) According to a thread on SongFacts it's a tribute to Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

This track can be purchased on iTunes US as well as MSN Music US. Please support the artist!

Chasing Amy - Never will regret this, I, never will, never will regret this  [Digg.com This!]

One of my favourite tracks and favourite movie montages is from Chasing Amy where we can see Holden and Alyssa's friendship growing. Numerous times after hearing the scoring track for the first time I searched and couldn't find it. Until now! The track is:

Jump Start by The Hang Ups

The lyrics go something like this:

Well some times I'm so tired,
and I feel I could sleep all the day,
Yes I lack a little motivation
But I wake up sometimes,
And I see that the sun really shines,
But I have a couple reservations now,
Cos I think I feel a little strangely today,
Yes I think I feel a little spark,
Hey a little jump start
Never will regret this, I,
Never will, never will regret this ....

Stacie Rose - This is Mine -- Mini Review

Smooth and melodic by an unjustly undiscovered artist

This Is Mine, originally released in 2002, combines rounded vocals with smooth and
melodic instrumentals. Strong lyrics bring the tracks together and result in a
album that surely deserves more recognition.

Available from: amazon.co.uk, amazon.com, and iTunes.

Podcasts and all that

Despite being a technocrat I didn't jump on the podcast band wagon too early on. I thought it was about time I did!

Podcasts are essentially free subscriptions to get mp3s. Those mp3s may be single tracks, radio shows, comedy shows, or a combination. Once subscribed using some podcast software you can download mp3s when they're published ('cast') on that subscription.

Here's some good free software:

If you like indie music, try:

And the Post Modern Rock Show:

which despite it's slightly esoteric name, is exceptionally good.

For some reason the Blogger template doesn't have a link for RSS feed in it. What's all that about?

Almost Famous Uncut DVD - Small Time Blues

Ok, so I bought the Almost Famous director's cut because it comes with quite a lot of extras. Most of them are great. Unfortunately for those wanting the full track of Small Time Blues (see earlier posts) they might be disappointed that the volume waives from left to right and back, I presume because the boom is being moved and it wasn't corrected. :-( Maybe I'll have to make a mono version!

Starbucks Photo

Almost Famous another uncredited track

Another track not on the OST (official soundtrack) for Almost Famous is Tangerine by Led Zepplin. This is the track leading into the end credits as William begins his interview and Russell says "To begin with... everything.."

To confirm it wasn't on the OST I checked on Amazon, and someone has kindly listed ALL the tracks from the movie. See Almost Famous soundtrack on Amazon.

Almost Famous uncredited track

Apart from Almost Famous being a great movie, it also has a number of tracks that are played for a few seconds, are not credited, or are not on the soundtrack. An example being when Penny is taking William through the Hyatt with the Zepplin fan and he stops to hear a couple singing "Please stay, I wanna hear you play.." and if you can hear it, the words that follow are "..small time blues". The song is Small Time Blues by Pete Droge, and according to a thread on SongFacts is a tribute to Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

The track features in full as an extra on the Almost Famous - The Bootleg Cut (Director's Edition) 2000 DVD.

If you're in the US you can also get the track Pete Droge 'Small Time Blues (Acoustic)' from MSN Music. If you're elsewhere in the world and you know who sells it let me know because I can't find it!

It's a Girl Thing ~ by My Life Story

I seem to have a habit of liking obscure tracks from movies or TV. One such track is It's a Girl Thing which featured in the opening credits of Teachers Season 2 (UK Channel 4 drama). Finding the actual track was relatively easy with such lyrics as "She removed your name from the speed dialer screen. And now you don't exist yeah cos it's a girl thing". Buying the track was harder. iTunes and the like are pretty useless for anything out of the ordinary. However, I did find the track on Amazon! It's a Girl Thing - My Life Story.
